A small radio station tries to make a name for itself with a rousing production of "The Scarlet Pimpernel," the story of Sir Percy Blakeney, a wealthy English aristocrat known as a fop and a fool. Little do they know he's the cunning hero known as the Scarlet Pimpernel who rescues condemned French nobles from the guillotine.

Step back into the Golden Age of Radio as a small-town station attempts to broadcast The Scarlet Pimpernel live on the air. But behind the microphones, not everything goes according to plan! Filled with backstage chaos, this play-within-a-play celebrates the magic—and mayhem—of live radio. Whether you’re a fan of classic adventure or old-time broadcasting, you’ll enjoy this light-hearted comedy that’s as much about the people making the show, as the show itself.

What do you mean by “radio play?”

I’ve incorporated part of a radio script that that was performed by Lux Radio Theater back in 1938, into a simple storyline to create a play-within-a-play. It’s nothing fancy, just a fun story about a small radio station trying to put on a show – and not going according to plan.

For people who are less familiar with the concept of old-fashioned radio plays, it’s a bit like an abbreviated audio book, or podcast.

Is it an actual radio production?

No. We’re not producing this for radio. It’s a play. However, we are incorporating a lot of elements that would have been used early on during the Golden Age of radio (1930s-1950s). While we will be using recorded music and sound, we are also creating a lot of the sound effects live, on stage. It’s an interesting element of radio that can actually provide a fun visual aspect to the show.
